As I Am, begins with Laeta’s beautiful voice crying out to God on, “Changes”. Her voice mixed with Paul the Messenger’s is like two forces coming together to create a powerful symphony. I did not want this song to end, they compliment each other well; giving me classic Idina Menzel & Michael Bublé vibes. Except with more emotion and significance. This song was a perfect way to start off the project, not only capturing the listeners attention, but also creating an atmosphere to what the album will entail.

I think anyone who has felt as if they have been drifting away from the Lord can relate to “Distance”. When Paul sings “please reach out your hands because your arms are longer,” we have all been there before. Moments when we are too weak, too far, too ashamed; hoping the Lord pulls us back in. In addition to the message in this song, isaacxhopes provides us with the smoothest bridge I have heard this year. I can play the last twenty-three seconds on a loop forever. I might have to ask them if I can sample this.

Even though I am not worthy, you still love me anyway
Even though I am not perfect, Lord your love is here to stay

Paul the Messenger

“Sinner’s Song II”, the second rendition of laying one’s life down to the Father. Paul repeats, “Draw me close and say that you will never let me go”, finding comfort in the Lord. I think part one and two of these songs can be prayers for people trying to give their lives over to the Lord. Words for people who can’t find the words. Paul, thank you for these words, thank you for this music, and we look forward to seeing you flourish in your artistry as the Lord continues to use you.
