GAWVI’s new album, Heathen dropped today. With all the content he has been posting leading up to the release I found myself saying, “I can’t wait” everytime I’m on his profile. The wait is over, Gawvi gives us 17 tracks of excitement, healing and reflection. The project starts of with “Difficult”, a beautiful and hopeful intro where his daughter sings with him. Lately, life has been difficult, hearing this right off the back encourages us that everything is going to be okay.
Since GAWVI posted the snippet video to “Skull” I been dying to hear the song in it’s entirety. The whole song goes hard. It has so many transitions and it’s remarkable the way it all comes together. I love when GAWVI says “I’m a Latino and strong Bidi-bidi-bidi-bom”, representing his Hispanic heritage and paying homage to the late, Selena. This songs makes you want to go to a GAWVI Concert, you just know this song would be amazing to watch him perform. “I got kneed in the face, I got elbowed on my skull.”
I might have sinned
But the devil wants me to think that
We won’t win
But we gon’ win
GAWVI – Sin
“Sin” is probably going to be on every Chrisitan playlists in the morning. This song is everything. It made my spirit feel whole, in a time when I’m feeling a bit empty. Anyone who’s in need of spending some time with the Lord should vibe to this song. I would love to hear a choir cover this or even hear it during devotional. GAWVI blessed us with this one.
Girl, you know I love it when you praise the Lord that way
GAWVI – Girl
“Girl” is amazing, this is probably going to be every christian girl’s anthem. From the production to the lyrics this song is perfect. The song makes you want to dance. This is the type of record that makes you want to celebrate the woman God placed in your life. Play it for wifey, dedicate it to her, thank me later. It’s fun and contagious, GAWVI needs to start a Tik Tok challenge to this, so I have an excuse to dance to it. This is probably my favorite song on the album, I said it on the first listen and now I’m on my fourth listen. SO GRAB SOMEBODY LIKE IN THE MOVIESSSSS!
I honestly don’t want to write about “Criminal” until you hear it yourself. So if you haven’t yet, stop reading right now and come back to the article when you’re done… I don’t know if its just me but, “Criminal” is like the Weeknd covering, Smooth Criminal, meets reggaeton. I was scrunching my face the whole time. It’s crazy, GAWVI’s ability as an artist is incredible, He can switch from singing to rapping, from english to spanish, from producing to performing. He is one of the most important artists we have in the Chrisitan community right now. We pray this album touches every heart and fills every room.
