One evening last week, I decided to have a chill music session. Through browsing YouTube, this song was recommended on the channel Gospel Hydration. The track is a collaboration with cousins DavEorKoFi, age 12 and R-Scar, age 18, from South London. Instantly I was drawn in by the harmonious vocals, electronic funky beat and clapping cadence, whilst a lingering faint tone builds up to release a wave of melodious sounds resonating through for the rest of the track.
This Afrobeat Gospel track, sung by DavEorKoFi, produced and rapped by R-Scar, will have you head bopping throughout. When asked what it was like working together, DavEorKoFi replied ‘It was really fun. I love that he [R-Scar] shows me how he mixes my song. In effect, he’s basically my manager’.
When asked about the lyrics, he responded ‘The inspiration behind this track is people trying to bring me down and are trying to lead me to the wrong path. In addition to this, Jesus still finds a way and brings me closer to him.
The lyrics are original and Gospel-filled with lines such as ‘Christ, he comes to give us life. He’s risen and he sits upon the throne and that is why I give him praises and my life’. The blend of R-Scar’s rhythmic rapping and DavEorKoFi’s melodic vocals work well together and complement the collective vibe of the tune. The mix of auto tune creatively echoes at various times throughout the track, allowing you to connect culturally with Afrobeats, whilst simultaneously expressing praise to God!
If you’re an Afrobeat lover, this is definitely a song to add to your playlist. It gets an 8/10 from me!
