Duane Caleb recently released his new album titled, One Eighty. I previously downloaded it waiting for the perfect day to vibe to the project on my way home from work. I wanted to listen to something I could relax to on my long commute. Duane’s music gives you that peace and tranquillity you need at the end of the day. Let’s dive right in.
Oh Father from above I’m needing of your love And even more I need direction
Hide Your Word, Duane Caleb
Hide Your Word, is my favorite song on the project. This song is about being on the path God has set for us and trying to stay clear of the distractions that present themselves. I think the closer our relationship grows with God the more sin affects us spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. So when Duane repeatedly sings, “I don’t want to sin against you Lord” it hits home. There have been times where I know I’m about to sin and I’m looking up at God like, why am I doing this? There comes a time in our spiritual journey where we grow out of the whole, “I mean, I just do a little of this and a little of that. I’m not killing anybody.” We start holding ourselves accountable for even the little things because we know how much it is hurting God, and our relationship with him. I know people that fling open the Bible whenever they feel like they’re going to sin, others that form groups of fellowship to talk about the temptation they face during the week, Whatever it is I encourage you to lean on those methods; keep his word in your heart.
If I had to describe Duane Caleb’s sound it would be the gospel meets 90’s R&B. The fourth track on the project, “Rain”, fits those vibes with as Daunes gives us doubled up vocals creating full harmonies, and breakdowns filled with light riffs. I’m a firm believer that with rain comes change. So when Duane sings, “from my head to my feet, Holy Spirit rain on me”, I imagine the Holy Spirit cleansing and transforming him as the blessings rain down. And who’s favorite R&B artist from the 90’s didn’t sing in the rain? It’s only right.
Extremely excited to see what God has instore for Daune Caleb. Keep growing, keep singing, and keep glorifying the Lord.
